Coluna 1

The ceramic process is a metaphor for all existence, for the planet earth itself. In this piece we use ceramic as matter, that is, organic and mineral matter (earth), air, water and fire as metaphor processes. We use various clays, which are formed and printed with other organic materials and produced materials and objects – pottery shards, fishing industry ropes found on the beach, shells, cork, plants, and quartz, among others. The different clays refer to a diversity of geological processes: coal, sedimentary rocks, clays, granites, and marbles. The pieces are then baked at high temperature and stacked to form a column, a spine or the glimpse of a piece of sedimented earth. It could also be a fictionalized geological clock, an attempt to preserve a moment in which the writing on clay, our ephemeral impressions, are fixed by fire. Looking like it was extracted from the earth, or that everything around it has disappeared due to erosion and only it remains.
